Elon Writing Center consultants traveled to Appalachian State University to participate in a Writing Center Consultant Collaboration Event.
Six consultants from the Elon Writing Center along with Writing Center Director Julia Bleakney drove to Appalachian State University in Boone, N.C, to attend the “North Carolina Tutor Collaboration Day.”
This annual event gives student writing center consultants, who are sometimes called “tutors,” the opportunity to work with and learn from each other, sharing ideas and strategies for what works across writing centers.
The Tutor Collaboration Day is sponsored by the Southeastern Writing Centers Association, the largest U.S. regional affiliate of the International Writing Centers Association. Representing the Elon Writing Center were Jamie Angle, Jack Greenwald, Courtney Kobos, Soula Kosti, Amanda McMahon and Madeleine McCarthy.
The event was held at App State’s University Writing Center, which is housed in the university’s Belk Library and Information Commons. It provided writing center consultants the opportunity to discuss successes, challenges and initiatives in their writing centers, and then to brainstorm how they might develop observations and experiences into research projects.
After the official work of the day ended, consultants caravanned to Moses Cone Manor on the Blue Ridge Parkway for a hike and the chance to continue the conversation.
