Elon ranks #33 among 1,054 four-year colleges in connecting students and faculty members, challenging academics, promoting critical thinking and applying knowledge in real world situations.

Elon ranks among the nation’s top universities in student engagement, according to the 2018 Wall Street Journal/Times Higher Education College Rankings. Elon’s #33 ranking in student engagement among 1,054 four-year colleges is the highest for North Carolina schools and leads Elon’s list of peer institutions.

This is the second year that the Wall Street Journal and London-based Times Higher Education have collaborated on U.S. college rankings that are described as an answer “to questions that matter the most to students and their families: How likely am I to graduate, pay off my loans and get a good job? Does the college have plenty of resources to teach me properly? Will I be engaged and stretched in the classroom and get good access to my teachers? Is there a diverse campus community?”

The study is based on 15 performance indicators related to academic resources, graduation rate, student-faculty ratio, academic reputation, faculty publishing, alumni salaries and other factors.

Elon earns an overall national ranking of #145, with strongest scores in factors related to student engagement in their studies. Elon students responding to a survey gave high marks to the ways that their studies promote critical thinking and applying their knowledge in real-world situations. They also rate Elon high for challenging academics and close collaboration with their professors and peers.
