McFadden presents workshop at international leadership conference in Belgium

The assistant professor of sport management co-led an October presentation titled “Developing Leadership Capacity of College Students During Divisive Times.”

Cara McFadden, an assistant professor in Elon University’s Department of Sport Management, presented at the International Leadership Association’s 19th annual global conference, which brings together scholars and practitioners in leadership studies. The conference, which had a theme of “Leadership in Turbulent Times,” was held in Brussels, Belgium, in mid-October.

McFadden co-led a workshop titled “Developing Leadership Capacity of College Students During Divisive Times,” with Don Stenta, recreational services director at The Ohio State University. After a review of frameworks for student leadership development, the collaborators led participants through a series of scenarios, applying critical thinking skills and investigating models to solve real-world challenges regarding student leadership development. McFadden and Stenta then coordinated an experiential activity to explore strategies for developing students’ leadership self-efficacy.

The presentation’s objective, according to the conference program, was to provide participants with “ideas, solutions and best practices to support the intentional design of student leadership programming.”
