The Department of Physical Therapy Education Rising Alumni Award honors alumni who have graduated within the past 10 years and whose achievements positively reflect the values of Elon University and the physical therapy profession.
This is the first year this award has been presented and there were two recipients, Matthew Anderson, DPT Class of 2007, and Amber Anderson, DPT class of 2011, who each exemplify the meaning of this award.
Since graduating with her doctor of physical therapy degree, Amber Anderson completed residency training in women’s and pelvic health physical therapy at the Baylor Institute of Rehabilitation and was recognized as a board certified specialist in Women’s Health.
Amber Anderson also received the American Physical Therapy Association’s Emerging Leader Award while serving as the Communications Director for the APTA’s Section on Women’s Health. She currently is a guest lecturer in Louisiana State University’s DPT program and serves on their DPT advisory committee. Anderson is the only women’s health specialist within a five-hour radius of Baton Rouge where she has her private practice. In addition to her professional life Amber is married to Jeremy and they have two children.
After graduating as the outstanding student in his DPT class of 2007, Matthew Anderson completed residency training in orthopedic physical therapy at Proaxis Therapy in South Carolina and became board certified in orthopedics. He completed an orthopedic and manual therapy physical therapy fellowship and earned recognition as a Fellow in the American Academy of Orthopedic and Manual Physical Therapy.
Anderson currently works at the Veteran’s Administration Hospital in Columbia, S.C., and also has a private practice specializing in orthopedic and manual physical therapy. He is a certified strength and conditioning specialist, an APTA credentialed clinical instructor, and has presented at many continuing education courses and national conferences. Anderson also teaches in the Evidence in Motion Orthopedic and Manual Therapy Residency program and the University of South College DPT program.
Anderson is married to Alison, who also also from Elon’s DPT program in 2007, and they have two children.
