Valle named outstanding instructor at U.S. Air Force Academy

Valle, who is a graduate of the U.S. Air Force Academy and a Distinguished Visiting Professor there this academic year, received the F. Theodore Helmer Award as the Outstanding Instructor in Management.

Matt Valle, Martha and Spencer Love Professor of Business and Professor of Management, has received the F. Theodore Helmer Award as the outstanding instructor in the Department of Management at the United States Air Force Academy. 

Valle is currently the Distinguished Visiting Professor in Management at the Air Force Academy for the 2017-18 academic year.  He also served as the Distinguished Visiting Professor in Management at the academy during 2010-11 academic year. He is a 1985 graduate of the U.S. Air Force Academy.

Valle taught “MGT 400: Management and Command” to 50 first-class (senior) cadets during the fall semester. This course is a core course for all seniors and covers management strategy, organization theory, and leadership.

Valle is currently the course director and an instructor for “MGT 401: Project Management,” which has 180 management majors enrolled.  Valle collaborated with department faculty to redesign both the MGT 400 and MGT 401 courses using an active learning/engaged learning approach. 

During the past year, Valle has engaged in research activities leading to publications with U.S. Air Force Academy faculty and others, and he has presented research workshops and led brown-bag discussions for faculty and staff. He also serves on the department’s NCAA Eligibility Committee. 

The award was presented in an assembly on March 20, 2018, by Col. Troy Harting, department head for the Department of Management.
