Research by Elon faculty, students and alumni featured at American Educational Research Association annual meeting

The work of various Elon faculty, students, and an alum was presented at the annual meeting of the American Educational Research Association (AERA), held April 13-17, 2018, in New York, NY. AERA’s annual meeting attracts more than 15,000 attendees and is considered one of the premier education research conferences.

Lumen Prize winner Samantha Friedman presented the results of her research, conducted with Scott Morrison, assistant professor, and Jessica Wery, titled “Practitioners’ Perceptions of the Effects of Outdoor Learning Environments on Students With Autism.”

Jeffrey Carpenter, associate professor and director of the Elon Teaching Fellows program, and Kira Baker-Doyle of Arcadia University organized an invited symposium titled, “Teacher-Led Networked Educational Organizing in the United States.” Their paper, “What Roots a Forest Plows a Path: A Critical Spatial Analysis of Teacher-Led Networked Organizing,” with Emery Petchauer of Michigan State University, was part of the symposium. Carpenter also served as the invited chair and discussant for a session on Digital Innovations in Teacher Professional Development.
