Elon students selected to National Chemistry Honor Society

Phi Lambda Upsilon inducts new members

On May 5, 2018, five Elon student were inducted into the Phi Lambda Upsilon national chemistry honor society that seeks “the promotion of high scholarship and original investigation in all branches of pure and applied chemistry.”

The society’s name originates from the three eminent scientists who inspired its creation: Carl Fresenius (P), Justus von Liebig (L) and Jacobus van’t Hoff (U). Inductees were selected based on their excellence in scholarship and character as exhibited in the classroom and research. This year’s nominees were:

  • Alexis Betsock (biochemistry)
  • Nicholas Ciolkowski (biochemistry)
  • Margo Greenawald (biochemistry)
  • Joel Harvey (biochemistry)
  • Tucker Schweickart (biochemistry)

The Gamma Alpha chapter hosted at Elon recently elected officers for the 2018-19 academic year, including Nicholas Ciolkowski (president), Margo Greenawald (vice-president), Joel Harvey (secretary) and Tucker Schweickart (treasurer).
