Inauguration preview: Elon Talks

A look ahead at the events surrounding the Oct. 18 inauguration of Connie Ledoux Book as Elon's ninth president. 

The university community is invited to gather in the Great Hall of the Global Commons on Friday, Oct. 19, at 2:30 p.m. for Elon Talks: Faculty Voices. 

The event, part of the celebration of the inauguration of Connie Ledoux Book as Elon’s ninth president, will highlight faculty voices and showcase their expertise in a series of brief “TED Talk”-type presentations. 

Elon Talks will be moderated by Kenn Gaither, associate dean of the School of Communications and professor of communications, and will feature innovative scholarship, insights into teaching and approaches to community engagement. Speaking during Elon Talks are: 

  • Cindy Fair, Watts-Thompson Professor of Public Health Studies and Human Service Studies – “It Changed My Life”: transformative moments in scholarship with undergraduate research
  • Haya Ajjan, associate professor of management information systems – The growth and impact of the Center for Organizational analytics
  • Tony Crider, professor of physics – “Taking Games Seriously,” or learning from scenarios and immersive play
  • Jean Rattigan-Rohr, executive director of community partnerships, director of the Center for Access and Success, and professor of education –  Rattigan-Rohr’s work focuses on what she calls “access to an empowering education for traditionally marginalized students.” Her talk will highlight the access initiative she founded and directs, The “It takes a Village” Project. 

Elon Talks will be another opportunity during an important milestone in the university’s history to celebrate the people, resources and connections that make Elon the strong community that it is.
