TODAY: A look at the Inauguration Day for President Connie Ledoux Book

An overview of the events surrounding the Oct. 18 inauguration of Connie Ledoux Book as Elon's ninth president.

The university community is invited to gather in Schar Center today as Elon celebrates the inauguration of the ninth president in its 129-year history — Connie Ledoux Book.

The traditional ceremony to celebrate a new university president will bring together current students, faculty and staff along with scores of alumni, community leaders and higher education representatives.

The ceremony will include a procession of alumni representing Elon graduating classes, delegates from colleges and universities from across the country, a series of greetings and musical selections, and an inaugural address by President Book.

Following the 3 p.m. ceremony, all are invited to a campuswide celebration in the Great Hall of the Global Commons building and the surrounding plaza. The celebration will include refreshments and a performance by the Elon Music Ambassadors.

Earlier in the day, alumni and higher education delegates are invited to participate in campus tours. The small-group tours will depart every 30 minutes from the Inman Admissions Welcome Center.

The campus community is also invited to a special Numen Lumen, the university’s weekly spiritual gathering. Beginning at 9:50 a.m. in the Numen Lumen Pavilion, the ceremony will bring together leaders from across campus for a multi-faith blessing for President Book, the university community and the university’s future together.

Additionally, visitors to campus and the university community can learn more about Elon’s previous presidential inaugurations at a pop-up exhibibt in the Moseley Center. The exhibit will be open from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Thursday and from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. on Friday.
