The Porter Family Professional Development Center and Martha and Spencer Love School of Business hosted the annual Sophomore Success event, drawing in 65 sophomore business students interested in honing their professional development skill.

Students hone interview and networking skills at Sophomore Success.
The Oct. 23 event provided participants the opportunity to learn about curating an online brand, strengthen resume and interview skills, learn about makeup and attire expectations in professional settings, and practice dinning etiquette. Students also had the opportunity to network with industry professionals and alumni from companies including Action Greensboro, Deitz Career Development, FactSet Research Systems, HanesBrands, MetLife Global Technology & Operations, Red Ventures, Relias and Vanguard.

“Sophomore Success is an interactive program that is designed to allow sophomore business students to begin to experience and explore professional development,” said Danielle Golinski, assistant director of career services for the Love School of Business. “It is designed to be a low-stakes but high reward experience where students have the opportunity to learn and receive feedback.

“This is personally one of my favorite events to organize as the employers absolutely enjoy the students who participate and are always impressed with their level of professionalism as sophomore students, but also realize that there is still a lot of practice to be had,” she said.

“I am so glad I participated in the Sophomore Success program,” said Annabel Lindh, a sophomore Business Fellow. “The staff provided helpful insights on what to expect from and how to prepare for the recruitment process. I found the mock interview and resume review portions were especially valuable in providing a small glimpse of the real world recruiting experience.”

The Porter Family Professional Development Center builds lasting relationships with students by offering support and coaching throughout the student’s academic and professional journey in the Martha and Spencer Love School of Business. The center’s staff offers consultative one-on-one meetings with students to create an action plan that will help each student secure the internship or job that best suits their career goals.
