News & Observer profiles Elon alum performing in national tour of 'Hamilton'

Reporter David Menconi sat down with Fergie L. Philippe '17 as he prepares to perform in the Broadway hit at the Durham Performing Arts Center next month.

Elon alumnus Fergie L. Philippe recently sat down with the Raleigh News & Observer in a return to North Carolina as a member of the cast of the Broadway hit “Hamilton.”

Philippe has been part of the national tour of the award-winning show that is selling out venues around the country. A native of Miami, Philippe is playing the dual roles of Hercules Mulligan and James Madison in the production.

In the Q&A piece with reporter David Menconi of the News & Observer, Philippe notes that at Elon he and his fellow students received a lot of attention due to the size of the program. “It taught me more about humanity, the person I am and the contribution I can make to art, which I think is more important than the art itself,” Philippe told Meconi. “I’ll be doing a couple of visits to campus, just acting like a regular student again. I really miss it.”

Philippe is finishing a run of the show at the Blumenthal Performing Arts Center and then will move to Durham, which will host 32 performances between Nov. 6 and Dec. 2.
