Squadron, a visiting professor of sport management, offers his thoughts on what an expansion of sports betting could mean for tax revenues. 

A recent article looking at the prospects of expanded sports betting coming to North Carolina included insights from Bill Squadron, a visiting professor of sport management at Elon. 

The article follows a decision by the U.S. Supreme Court earlier this year that struck down a federal ban on sports gambling. Talk about North Carolina clearing the way for expanded gambling ramped up after billionaire David Tepper received unanimous approval to become the next owner of the Carolina Panthers and offered comments about what gambling could mean for state tax coffers. 

Squadron offered that legalized sports betting could present a new revenue source for states and could increase fan engagement at the same time. “It’s going to be a hugely impactful new revenue source throughout the sports industry,” Squadron said.
