Project Management Club fall meeting features Lean Six Sigma guest speaker

Scott Force, continuous improvement leader, North America Engineering at Gilbarco Veeder-Root, talked about his experiences leading process-improvement teams.

The Elon Project Management Club hosted their fall meeting on Nov. 27 in the Koury Business Center. Project Management Club President Kenzie West and Vice President (President-Elect) Zoe Budsworth welcomed more than 25 club members to the event, which featured guest speaker Scott Force, continuous improvement leader, North American Engineering at Gilbarco Veeder-Root in Greensboro, North Carolina.

Force discussed his experiences leading process-improvement teams at LabCorp, Honda and Gilbarco Veeder-Root. As a certified Six Sigma Black Belt and Master Black Belt trainer, Force has led dozens of process-improvement initiatives that saved his companies millions of dollars.

Force discussed the application of lean and six sigma principles to project work. An engineering graduate from Miami University, Force said he enjoys working with project teams to find ways to cut waste and downtime and improve project outcomes through the application of quality tools such as the PDCA cycle, kaizen, statistical process charts, and failure mode and effects analysis. He also offered career advice for prospective project managers.

The Project Management Club is open to all Elon University students. The organization provides opportunities for networking, career development, job search, social activities, and service learning. Project Management Club members recently completed fall service projects including the Veterans Day Remembrance Ceremony, a Veterans Day video, activities and veteran tributes at the Nov. 10 Elon football game, and a student recycling project.

The club is currently planning spring term activities and is soliciting input for meeting agenda items and activities. If you would like to provide input or are interested in joining the Project Management Club, please contact President Kenzie West or Vice President Zoe Budsworth
