‘Tis the season for sustainability! This holiday season the Office of Sustainability has a new initiative — to get students, faculty, and staff wrapping their presents in sustainable ways. One of the biggest problems with traditional wrapping paper is that due to dying and lamination, it oftentimes cannot be recycled. This means that every holiday season, over 4 million pounds of wrapping paper is sent to landfills.

In order to help alleviate the problem, Eco-Reps have been working hard to create kits that include old issues of The Pendulum, newspaper bows, fabric, and cardboard tags. The newspapers were donated by Elon News Network and the cardboard tags were created on the Maker Hub- Downtown’s laser engraver using leftover cardboard scraps.

Free wrapping kits will be available at the Festival of Holiday Lights on December 6 and and College Coffee on December 4.  Be sure to pick up yours before they disappear!
