Schedule of events for Elon Law's 2019 Inclusion Week

Several student groups have organized programs from Feb. 18-23 to showcase the impact and importance of diversity in the legal profession.

Elon Law’s annual Inclusion Week takes place Feb. 18-23, 2019, where programs for the law school community will explore and foster dialogue about diversity and inclusion in the American legal profession. 

The American Bar Association Center for Racial and Ethnic Diversity and the ABA Young Lawyers Division honored Elon Law’s inaugural Diversity Week programming five years ago when it finished first in their Next Steps Diversity Challenge.

Monday, February 18

OutLaw Interest Meeting

This event is open to students interested in relaunching Elon Law’s social and educational organization for fostering a supportive and accepting environment for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender students, faculty, staff, and professionals at Elon Law and in the greater legal community. 

“What if Kanye West Were President? Law Students & Systemic Legal Reform”

Sponsored by the Black Law Students Association and First-Generation Legal Professionals & Allies, a reception will follow this engaging program led by a prominent North Carolina community advocate who gained national prominence in 2016 as a leader and peacekeeper during the Charlotte protests of the police shooting of Keith Lamont Scott.

"Racenicity: The Disenfranchisement of Marginalized Communities"

An attorney for the Southern Coalition for Social Justice, Jaclyn Maffetore L’16 will lead a conversation based on her work for the Durham-based nonprofit whose founders “believe that families and communities engaged in social justice struggles need a team of lawyers, social scientists, community organizers and media specialists to support them in their efforts to dismantle structural racism and oppression.”

Pipeline to the Legal Profession

Multiple locations at Elon Law in Greensboro
A day of learning about the legal profession at Elon Law School. This program is open to any student considering a legal career and may be especially beneficial to first- and second-year undergraduates planning courses over the next few years. The event will include a mock class, tips for getting into and succeeding in law school, and the opportunity to learn from and interact with current law students, law professors, and practicing attorneys.
