Elon highlighted as one of the “most represented schools on Broadway”

Elon’s Music Theatre program was recently featured in a BroadwayWorld article providing information about some of the nation’s top music theatre programs.

The Music Theatre program at Elon has gained a reputation of being one of the fastest growing programs in the nation, with numerous alumni landing roles on Broadway, in national tours, at regional theatres, and in behind-the-scenes careers around the world. Recently, BroadwayWorld.com published an article titled “Where Do You Belong? Stats from the Most Represented Schools on Broadway Part 1,” which featured four universities: Northwestern University, Carnegie Mellon University, Elon University and the University of Michigan.

The core values of Elon’s program are highlighted in the article, with a quote from professor of performing arts and head of the music theatre program, Catherine McNeela: “An Elon Music Theatre student not only dedicates themselves to their training, but also to cultivating what makes them unique as people and performers. This results in storytellers who are soulful, daring, and passionate, all while being led with kind hearts. The students that thrive at Elon have a deep capacity for love, and a deep love for putting in the work.”

The article also mentions five notable Elon performing arts alumni, including Barrett Wilbert Weed ’11 (Mean Girls, Heathers), Taylor Trensch (Dear Evan Hansen, Hello Dolly!, The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time), and recent graduate Jared Goldsmith ’18, who is currently traveling the country performing as Jared Kleinman in the national tour of Dear Evan Hansen, in addition to workshopping an original musical titled Mazkapan: A New Magical Musical!. Also mentioned were Ginna Claire Mason and Kennedy Caughell.
