Elon to host free summer concert for the community TODAY

The midday, outdoor concert will feature the Camel City Jazz Orchestra performing near the Martin Alumni Center.

The heart of Elon’s campus will be filled with the sounds of jazz on Thursday, June 20, for the university’s second-annual summer concert for the community.

The Camel City Jazz Orchestra from Winston-Salem, N.C., will perform from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. near the Martin Alumni Center at East Haggard and North O’Kelly avenues. All are welcome to attend the free outdoor event, which will also feature free ice cream. Hot dogs and other snacks will be available for purchase at the concert, and the community is welcome to bring their own food, blankets and chairs.

The Camel City Jazz Orchestra is a nonprofit group dedicated to celebrating and perpetuating jazz, a uniquely American art form. The organization was formed in January 2012 to serve as “the community’s own professional big band” and along with performances, the group provides educational programs.

In the event of rain, the concert will be held in Alumni Gym.
