Throughout the end of June, a group of Elon students will be immersed in the business and culture of Hong Kong, South Korea and Japan through one of Elon’s global experience programs.

Led by Tina Das, Lincoln Financial Professor of Economics, and Mark Kurt, associate professor of economics, the students will examine how international trade, business and economic activity influence culture, politics, wealth and society across the region and the world.

And you can follow along with them throughout the course of the program and look back at what they’ve done so far through a dedicated Instagram account, @elon.hksj.

The account is offering a look into the wide variety of experiences of these students during the three-week program in Asia that includes five days in Hong Kong, four days in Seoul, South Korea, nine days in the Kansai Region of Japan and five days in Tokyo. The group began the program on June 3 in Hong Kong, which offered the opportunity to compare and contrast Japanese business culture with Chinese business culture, as well as time spent exploring Hong Kong in small breakout groups.

In South Korea, the group visited the Gyeongbokgun Palace, the Presidential “Blue House” and the Jogyesa Temple, as well as take a cruise on the Han River and participate in an interactive seminar at Sungkyunkwan University. Interspersed throughout their time in the three countries will be business visits and meetings with executives.

The second half of the program is spent in Japan, where the students are learning about and exploring Japanese culture, participating in seminars led by experts in international business, economics and intercultural team-building, and exploring the country through guided tours of cultural sites.
