The report followed tweets by the president about four Democratic members of Congress telling them to "go back" to their countries of origin and accusing them of hating the United States. Voice of America reports that among white nationalists, the comments have been applauded.
Squire has conducted extensive research into online extremism, and she told Voice of America that the three tweets about the lawmakers were among the most popular of his presidency, generating more than half a million likes. However, white nationalists are not roundly supportive of the president, she noted.
They're glad Trump said it, but they're still mad at him for other things," Squire said. "They're mad at him about Israel because, of course, they're anti-Semitic. They're mad at him about immigration, that he hasn't fulfilled his campaign promises, so they feel let down."
