An Elon University junior has been named the District Outstanding Brother of the Year for Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc., an annual competition that judges nominees on criteria that include involvement in the organization, academic standing, campus involvement and leadership.
Finance major Evan Glover of Bowie, Md., will compete this spring for regional honors. Elon is one of 32 chapters in North Carolina that makes up the district.
“I was ecstatic. I wasn’t expecting to win,” Glover said. “I had gone through and looked at others who applied for the award. You had to do a presentation, and the presentations I saw were off the charts. I was honored that they selected me.”
Glover’s lengthy list of extracurricular activities and leadership responsibilities helped seal the win. He serves as president of the National Pan-Hellenic Council at Elon, he serves as an SGA senator representing Multicultural Center, and he serves as treasurer of the Diversity Emerging Education Program through the Multicultural Center.
In addition, Glover works as a SMART through the Multicultural Center and is a member of the Elon Judicial Honor Board. He is coordinating an alternative Spring Break service trip to the Dominican Republic and is a member of the Phi Alpha Delta law fraternity.
Glover serves as a Multicultural Ambassador for the Office of Admissions. He also serves on numerous administrative committees including the Academic Standing Committee and the Elon University Beacon Scholarship Committee. In the midst of his numerous campus involvements, Glover has maintained at 3.2 cumulative GPA.

The regional contest this spring will have Glover competing against district winners from the Southern Region of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., which includes North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, Tennessee and Florida.
