Pendulum honored with top 10 finishes in ACP contests

The Pendulum, Elon University's daily newsgathering organization, was honored with Best of Show awards from the Associated Collegiate Press on the last day of ACP's joint convention with College Media Advisers Oct. 30 in Orlando, Fla. Representatives from media publications who attend the conference may enter the Best in Show competition. All entries are submitted and judged on site.

The Pendulum Online placed first in Publication Website Small School, and The Pendulum placed third in Four-Year Weekly Tabloid. The website’s 10th anniversary coverage of Sept. 11 placed ninth in the Multimedia Package category.

Prior to the convention in ACP’s national contests, The Pendulum Online was honored as a finalist in the Online Pacemaker competition, and a Pendulum staff editorial was named an honorable mention in the Editorial/Opinion writing category.

Pendulum student leaders Anna Johnson (editor in chief), Rebecca Smith (managing editor), Jeff Stern (online editor), Sam Calvert (online managing editor), Caitlin O’Donnell (news editor), Rachel Southmayd (opinions editor), Ashley Fahey (features editor), Zach Horner (assistant sports editor) and Natalie Allison (senior reporter) were in attendance at the ACP/CMA national college media convention in Orlando from Oct. 26-30 with adviser and coordinator of student media Colin Donohue.

Colonnades, Elon’s literary magazine, was also given its national Magazine Pacemaker finalist award for its most recent issue, “The Physics of Want,” which was produced under the leadership of Jon Bolding ’11.
