Two staff members in the Office of Career Services have received awards from the North Carolina Career Development Association for their contributions to the career development of students at Elon University.

Both staff members learned of their honors during the NCCDA’s annual conference, hosted this year on Elon’s campus.

Pam Brumbaugh, director of experiential education and a staff member at Elon for more than two decades, received the 2011 Roy N. Anderson Award, which recognizes an individual in North Carolina “who has made an outstanding contribution to career development, both in the state and at the regional or national levels over an extended period of time.” The award is named for the founding professor of the North Carolina State University Counselor Education Program.

“Pam is tremendous institutional resource, and that’s not an overstatement,” Tom Vecchione, executive director of the Office of Career Services, says of Brumbaugh. “She is a nationally known authority on the topic of experiential education and internships. This expertise and her exceptionally strong team-building skills have been of great value to her colleagues for more than 25 years here at Elon.”

Ross Wade, who joined the university staff in 2008 as assistant director of Career Services for the School of Communications, received the 2011 New Professional Award, which honors a North Carolinian “who has made a significant contribution to career development and has been in the profession for five years or less.” Recipients show “unusual skill and promise of outstanding future accomplishments” and demonstrate evidence of meritorious service to the career development profession and/or the association.

“Ross exemplifies a ‘can do’ attitude in everything he does,” Vecchione says. “That started on his first day at Elon and continued, and as he expands his role and responsibilities, he continues to demonstrate a strong capacity for quick learning, collaboration and producing results.”
