Paul Geis, associate director of study abroad, and Mark Kurt, assistant professor of economics, recently presented at the NAFSA: Association of International Educators Bi-Regional Conference.
The conference took place from October 14-18, 2012, in San Jose, Puerto Rico. Geis and Kurt presented research on short-term study abroad at the poster session during the conference. Their poster, entitled Measuring International Awareness of Short-term Education Abroad Program Participants, presented the results of research conducted in the fall of 2011 and winter of 2012. Geis said, “Our findings indicated that short-term study abroad did have an impact on some areas of international awareness. The three different administrations of the survey helped to show that the actual experience abroad was the important factor and that the on-campus pre-departure course in the fall did not have the same impact.”
Geis also had the opportunity to serve as a panelist for the session Views from Two Sides of The Fulbright International Education Administrator Program: The Host Institution and the Fulbright Grantee.
The International Education Administrator (IEA) program is designed to assist U.S. international education professionals and higher education administrators build networks with communities, universities and professionals around the world. Geis participated in an IEA program to India in the spring of 2010 and used this opportunity to share his experiences with colleagues from around the U.S.
