Elon University Provost Steven House and Chris Fulkerson, assistant vice president for technology/CIO, have announced that Assistant Professor Antonio Izzo will serve as Elon’s Faculty Fellow for Technology beginning in January.

Izzo joined the Department of Biology faculty in 2007. He received his bachelor’s degree in zoology from the University of Vermont, a master’s degree in biological sciences from the University of Northern Colorado, and his doctorate in microbial biology from the University of California at Berkeley.

Izzo has 20 years of experience in molecular biology technologies, particularly in DNA science. He said he believes technology enhances teaching and learning, and he regularly engages his students through the use of current and emerging technologies.

In addition, he spends a great deal of time exploring and developing collaborative technology tools for teaching, advising, and research. Izzo maintains blogs for his department and courses, and he actively participated in university initiatives on mobile learning and classroom response systems.

Izzo will continue to be a voice for faculty while attending technology planning meetings, exploring new technologies that focus on pedagogy, and advancing faculty creative/research projects.
