The Honorable A. Leon Stanback to Deliver Keynote Address at Sixth Annual Diversity Day and Law School Fair-Feb 16

The Honorable A. Leon Stanback will deliver the keynote address at Elon Law’s Sixth-Annual Diversity Day and Law School Fair on Saturday, February 16th, 2013. 

Diversity Day is an annual recruitment and service event of Elon Law that introduces minorities who are underrepresented in the legal profession to law school and the law school admissions process. Annually, this event draws high-school and college students and features a keynote presentation, panel discussions by attorneys, law students, admissions professionals, and a law fair with representatives from law schools in North and South Carolina. Former keynote speakers include Attorney Julius Chambers, founder of the UNC Center for Civil Rights; Elaine Jones, former director-counsel and president, NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Funds; Dr. Timothy Tyson, noted author and historian; Dr. Julianne Malveaux, president of Bennett College for Women; and Hon. James R. Spencer, U.S. District Court Judge.

Diversity Day will take place at the Elon University School of Law, located at 201 North Greene Street in downtown Greensboro. The program will begin at 9:00a.m. and conclude at 2 p.m. Lunch will be provided. There is no cost to attend.

After having retired from more than 20 years of service as a superior court judge for North Carolina’s 14th judicial district, Governor Beverly Perdue appointed Judge A. Leon Stanback to serve as interim district attorney for Durham County in 2012.  Prior to his nomination to superior court, Judge Stanback worked as parole commissioner with the North Carolina Parole Commission, practiced law with his private firm of Stanback & Stanback and served as an assistant district attorney for Guilford County.  Judge Stanback received his Juris Doctor from North Carolina Central University.
