Honors Fellows blogging from Istanbul in January 2013

Fifteen Honors Fellows are in Turkey this month for tours, university lectures and museum visits.

Freshmen Honors Fellows are taking part in a Winter Term program in Istanbul, Turkey, this month and are sharing photos and reflections about their experience on a class blog.

Led by faculty members Maureen Vandermaas-Peeler, Lynn Huber and Michael Carignan, the 15 students have already toured Koç University’s Research Center on Anatolia and visited the archaeological museum next to Topkapi Palace.The group will visit the Koç University campus later this week to meet with students and faculty there.

Founded in 1993 with resources from the Vehbi Koç Foundation, Koç University enrolls about 4,300 students and is considered one of the leading research institutions in Turkey. Elon University and Koç partnered in 2011 to create an undergraduate exchange program that allows students to study abroad in a part of the world steeped with culture, history and art.

The Honors Fellows are one of two Elon groups visiting Turkey this month. Led by faculty members Tina Das and Jennifer Platania, a second class is visiting the nation for the “EUROMED: Turkey/Greece:Where East meets West” winter course.
