Elizabeth Capel to present at national undergraduate art history conference

Senior Lumen Scholar and Elon College Fellow Elizabeth Capel was selected to present at the Fourth Annual Undergraduate Art History Conference at Baker University.

Art History major and Women’s & Gender Studies minor Elizabeth Capel has been selected to present her research on American women art collectors of the late 19th and early 20th century for the Fourth Annual Undergraduate Art History Conference at Baker University in Baldwin City, Kansas this coming April. Capel’s research project, completed as part of her work for both the Lumen Prize and Elon College Fellows, concludes that the gender-based disadvantages these major collectors faced during their lives continue on in current scholarship. The conference is unusual in that undergraduate research conferences are almost unknown in art history, and it is competitive–last year’s conference had only eight presenters, all from different universities including Stony Brook and Wellesley. Capel will be presenting a shorter version of her research at NCUR as well.
