Elon alumni take part in “Pave the Way” brick campaign

From April 15 - May 31, alumni can participate in a campaign to personalize a brick for installation at Elon's new alumni center

Like many of her fellow alumni, some of Britten Ginsburg Pund’s best memories of Elon include the university’s trademark brick architectural style and even tripping over a brick or two on campus pathways. Pund, a 2006 Elon graduate, looks forward to bringing those memories full circle during Elon’s “Pave the Way” brick campaign.

“This campaign is a way to give back to the place that changed all of our lives,” said Pund, president of Elon’s Young Alumni Council. “Elon counts on alumni investments in the university and every gift makes a difference. The brick campaign provides alumni a unique chance to leave a visual legacy of our investment in Elon.”

“Pave the Way” launches April 15 as an opportunity for Elon graduates to make a lasting mark on campus as the university approaches its 125th anniversary. For a gift of $125, Elon will engrave a brick in honor of every alumni participating in the campaign. Bricks will be installed at the university’s new alumni center, opening this fall at the corner of Haggard and O’Kelly avenues.

The new alumni center will anchor a campus visit experience designed to reconnect alumni to Elon as they return to their alma mater. The newly renovated building, which formerly housed Elon’s Office of Financial Planning, will create a central location for Elon graduates to watch a new alumni video, meet alumni engagement staff, and take campus tours created to highlight their experiences as students. A living room and outdoor terrace will serve as gathering spaces for informal events, and the center will feature convenient visitor parking.

“Coming back to Elon feels like coming home for so many of our alumni,” said Tim Moore ’78, a member of the Elon Alumni Board. “With ‘Pave the Way’, we can all take part in building a new place at Elon that puts alumni in the middle of campus life.”

Alumni who take part in the campaign can view their personalized bricks at the alumni center during Elon’s 125th anniversary homecoming, scheduled Nov. 8-10. Gifts received during “Pave the Way” will benefit Elon’s Greatest Needs, an annual fund that supports scholarships, faculty development, technology, academics, facilities and the Elon Experiences.
