Jessica Gisclair, associate professor and department chair in the School of Communications, was selected to be one of 17 participants in the sixth Scripps Howard Academic Leadership Academy, sponsored by the Manship School of Mass Communication at Louisiana State University and the Scripps Howard Foundation.

The Academy brings together academics and professionals within the mass communications and journalism fields to provide the opportunity to learn about the challenges and rewards of leading an academic program.

“My interest in the academy stems from my pursuit of leadership training and development as I consider future leadership roles in academia,” Gisclair said.

The participants represent a diverse combination of institutions of higher education and the professional mass communication sector. During their time in the Academy, mid-career academics and professionals will meet with seasoned administrators to learn about management, discuss the future of media education and consider issues critical to those interested in or new to leadership roles. Other participants in the Academy included representatives of The Pennsylvania State University, the University of Maryland, Northwestern University, the University of Georgia, the University of Florida, Arizona State University and Syracuse University.

Gisclair is the fourth School of Communications faculty member to participate in the Academy, following professor and associate provost Connie Book, professor and interim associate provost Brooke Barnett and associate professor and associate dean Kenn Gaither.
