Lucinda Austin wins national award from AEJMC

The assistant professor in the School of Communications was recognized with the "SuPRstar" honor for her teaching accomplishments and contributions to the public relations profession.

Elon University School of Communications assistant professor Lucinda Austin was honored with the Public Relations “SuPRstar” Award for Outstanding Teaching activities at the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication national conference Aug. 9 in Washington D.C.

The national award recognizes one AEJMC Public Relations Division member annually who has excelled in teaching accomplishments and contributions to the profession throughout the year. During the 2012-2013 year, Austin’s activities included receiving the National Communication Association’s PRIDE Award for Outstanding Contribution to Public Relations Education for an article published in the 2011 Special Issue on Pedagogy in Public Relations Review.

Additionally, Austin received a Page Legacy Educator Award grant from the Arthur W. Page Center for Integrity in Public Communication to develop teaching resources. Austin also developed and chaired a panel for this year’s AEJMC Conference covering “Teaching Ethics in a Converged, Changing Media Climate.”

At Elon University, Austin also received a number of awards and participated in a variety of programs during the 2012-2013 year, including a Service Learning Faculty Scholar Award, a Kernodle Service Learning Community Partnership Initiative Grant, a Curriculum Infusion Grant, a Center for the Advancement of Teaching and Learning Travel Grant and an Academic Technology and Computing Software Grant. Austin also designed and taught a new course in health communication at Elon during the 2013 spring semester.
