Assistant Professor of Religious Studies Geoffrey Claussen recently published a translation of a 19th century Jewish text in the Jewish Review of Books
Geoffrey Claussen, the Lori and Eric Sklut Emerging Scholar in Jewish Studies and assistant professor in the Department of Religious Studies, recently published an introduction to and translation of a text written by the nineteenth-century Musar movement leader Rabbi Simhah Zissel Ziv. The text, addressing the students at Ziv’s innovative yeshiva in Kelme, Lithuania, in advance of the Jewish high holidays of Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur, focuses on the implications of the biblical commandment to “love one’s fellow as oneself.”
Claussen is presently working on a book about Simhah Zissel Ziv’s ethical thought.
