Several student organizations and departments have partnered to host programs that run through April 26, 2014, in celebration of Earth Week and the university's commitment to sustainability & the environment.
The Office of Sustainability is partnering with groups such as Elon Outdoors, the Elon Community Church Farmer’s Market and Iron Tree Blooming to host sustainability-related events as part of a celebration series leading up to Earth Week and Earth Day on April 22.
Past programs that had been scheduled in advance of Earth Week included:
- Monday April 14, 7 p.m. in McMichael 115: “Small Stories, Big Change: Agents of change on the frontlines of sustainability.” The book’s North Carolina author, Lyle Estill, and local entrepreneurs featured in the book presented stories of sustainability.
- Wednesday April 16, 7 p.m. in KOBC 211: In preparation for Dr. Sandra Steingraber’s presentation on April 22, the Office of Sustainability screened the film based on her book “Living Downstream.”
Steingraber – an ecologist, mother, cancer survivor and author – visits campus April 22 on Earth Day itself with a presentation at 7:30 p.m. in McKinnon Hall. Steingraber will talk about the links between environmental and human health.
All members of the campus community will have the opportunity to share their vision of a more sustainable Elon on April 23, from 4-5 p.m. in Moseley 215 during the session “Envisioning a Future We Want.”
