Own a couch or desk or clothes you can't seem to sell on E-net? Instead of tossing them into the nearest Dumpsters this spring when heading away from campus, consider donating usable items to local charities that assist the needy of Alamance County.
For the sixth year in a row, students this spring have an opportunity to donate usable items as they move home for the summer – or, if graduating seniors, onto the first stop in their careers.
The “Don’t Trash It!” campaign returns May 14-25, 2014, and an expanded number of donation stations makes it easier than ever to make a contribution.
Students living on campus can bring items to the donation station in their residential neighborhood. Off-campus students, faculty and staff can drop items off from from 9 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. at the Habitat for Humanity and Goodwill trucks in the parking lot of the Elon Community Church.
Accepted Donations:
- Unopened, nonperishable food
- CLEAN sheets, blankets & comforters
- Furniture
- CLEAN clothing and miscellaneous housewares
Donations benefit Allied Churches, First Presbyterian Church, Habitat for Humanity and Goodwill. A FAQ sheet offers answers to general questions and donation station locations.
There will not be a separate drive this year for electronics. Working devices (with the exception of tube TVs) can be donated to Goodwill. Broken electronics can be placed in the ‘small electronics’ recycling bins located throughout campus. Here is a map of electronics recycling locations.
The “Don’t Trash It!” campaign was initiated by the Truitt Center for Religious and Spiritual Life and is coordinated by the Office of Sustainability in partnership with the Truitt Center, Residence Life, Greek Life, Kernodle Center for Service Learning and Community Engagement, Environmental Services, Goodwill, Habitat for Humanity, Allied Churches and First Presbyterian Church.
