Assistant professor of mathematics Chad Awtrey and Elon undergraduates Brett Barkley '15, Jeremy Guinn '14 and Mackenzie McCraw '14 published their research article in the latest issue of the Pi Mu Epsilon Journal.
The article, “Resolvents, masses, and Galois groups of irreducible quartic polynomials”, offers two new algorithms for computing the symmetry properties of roots of degree 4 polynomials whose coefficients come from arithmetically interesting fields.
Guinn plans to attend medical school in the fall. McCraw has accepted a teaching position at Mooresville High School, which is located just north of Charlotte. Barkley is finishing his engineering degree at the University of Maryland, College Park.
