Aeron Sizemore ’02 G’08 has been selected as the 2014 Alamance-Burlington School System Teacher of the Year.

Sizemore was one of 37 teachers of the year from all the county schools considered for the award by the Alamance Area Chamber of Commerce. She was honored at an awards ceremony Sept. 3 at Elon Community Church.

A Teaching Fellow, Sizemore graduated from Elon in 2002 with a history degree. In 2008 she received a master’s degree in gifted education from Elon’s Master’s in Education program. She has been at Cummings for 12 years, where she teaches U.S. history.

“I grew up in a home in poverty and education was my way to better my life,” the Burlington (N.C.) Times-News quoted her as saying in a video shown at the ceremony. “I try to stress to my students that the best way to improve themselves and their lives is through education.”
