The first Carole and Doug Bruns International Service Learning Scholarship will award up to $5000 this summer to 2 students to engage in service learning at The Fundacion Educativa Accion Callejera, widely known as Accion Callejara (Street Action). Street Action is a not-for-profit NGO (non-government organization) that creates educational programs in personal development among adolescents working in the streets in Santiago, Dominican Republic. The organization was founded in 1989 to improve the quality of life of children and adolescent workers. The interns will work in one or all of 3 main programs offered by Street Action: Education in the Streets – Youth Center – Community Education for 9 weeks.
