Elon hosts statewide German teachers’ meeting

Elon recently hosted the North Carolina chapter of the American Association of Teachers of German (AATG) for an all-day meeting and workshop. On Sept. 8, K-12 and university German teachers from across the state gathered on Elon’s campus to discuss advocacy for the state’s German programs. Also discussed were ways to articulate curricula and teaching methodologies across the various levels (K-5, middle school, high school, and college/university).

The guest speaker was Stephen Van Orden, a national expert on program advocacy. Van Orden’s German program at Timpview High School in Provo, Utah, has won national awards from AATG.

North Carolina has strong economic and cultural connections to Germany, owing in part to the banking industry, manufacturing industry, and chemical industry in the state.
