Joan Barnatt & Marna Winter present at national education research conference

The two School of Education faculty members will present at the Annual conference of the American Educational Research Association on April 28 in San Francisco, Calif.

Their paper, “An Elementary Global Experience: Teacher Practice in a Technology-based Global Exchange for K-6 Classrooms,” reports outcomes of a longitudinal qualitative study conducted on the experience of four purposefully selected teacher participants in a Web 2.0 based cross-cultural exchange between elementary classrooms.

Using a sociocultural lens, the study offers case comparisons of teachers through the lens of identity and figured worlds as conceived by Holland et al (1998). Changes in practice were measured against Banks’ (2006) stages of curriculum development. The cases represent teachers with varying range of change in practice which are explored through the frame of identity and figured worlds. Implications are offered for the project and profession.
