Catherine Wasson continues leadership in multinational legal writing association

Elon Law Professor Catherine Wasson has been elected to a second term on the Board of Directors of the Association of Legal Writing Directors (ALWD).

ALWD supports research and scholarship in the field of legal writing and advocates on behalf of the field, its students and its teachers. It publishes a peer-edited journal, Legal Communication & Rhetoric, that focuses on the substance and practice of professional legal writing, and the ALWD Citation Manual, a citation text designed for students and practitioners.

With some exceptions, ALWD membership is limited to legal educators who are primarily responsibility for designing and coordinating the legal research and writing curricula at law schools across the United States, Canada and Australia.

Wasson was first elected to the Board in 2010.  In 2011 she was one of the founding members of the organization’s Leadership and Professional Development Committee. She now serves as board liaison for the committee. As an ALWD member since 2001, Wasson has advocated for security of position and equal pay for legal writing professors, and for rigorous professional writing instruction for students. Wasson’s second term on the board will run from August 1, 2013, until July 31, 2016.
