Brick by brick alumni show Elon pride

More than 500 alumni have already participated in “Pave the Way,” a brick campaign launched April 15.

“Here love began.”

“Don’t trip on me!”

“Always bELONg.”

“From acorn to oak.”

These are just a few of the phrases alumni are using to express their Elon pride as they participate in a brick campaign that recognizes the generosity of Elon’s many alumni donors.

Alumni who support the campaign before May 31 have the opportunity to leave a lasting mark at Elon’s new Martin Alumni Center, a renovated facility opening this fall at the corner of Haggard and O’Kelly avenues. Every donor that takes part in “Pave the Way” will be honored with a personalized brick that the university will install at the center, which has been redesigned as a new campus home for alumni visiting their alma mater.

Hundreds of alumni have already taken part in the campaign, reserving bricks that will bear the class year, major, sport, Greek letters, campus organization or message of their choice. Dozens of the participants are first-time Elon donors, and alumni from every decade since the 1920s will be represented amongst the bricks installed at the center’s outdoor terrace and pathways.

The university will install the bricks prior to Elon’s 125th Anniversary Homecoming, which is set for Nov. 8 – 10.  Gifts made during “Pave the Way” will benefit Elon’s Greatest Needs, an annual fund that supports student scholarships, outstanding faculty, quality academics, premier facilities and distinctive opportunities such as the Elon Experiences.
