Time is running out for Elon alumni to leave a permanent mark at their alma mater.

Pave the Way, an exclusive opportunity for alumni to reserve bricks at Elon’s new Martin Alumni Center, comes to an end Friday, May 31. Already, the brick campaign has resonated with nearly 1,100 Elon graduates of all ages, including almost 150 alumni donors who made first-time gifts to the university during Pave the Way.

One of these first-time donors, Leigh Lesniak ’09 of Charlotte, names a special reason for participating.

“I wouldn’t have been able to attend Elon if not for my parents,” says Lesniak. “I decided to donate a brick in their honor, with a message thanking them for the experience. They love Elon just as much as I do, so I know this will be very special for them.”

Lesniak and fellow donors have reserved bricks at the Martin Alumni Center, a new campus home for alumni opening this fall at the intersection of Haggard and O’Kelley avenues.

“I love the connection the brick campaign provides us as alumni,” says Jeffrey Walters  ’94 of West Hartford, Conn., also a first-time donor to the university. “What a great way to support Elon and have a unique role in the historic campus.”

Elon launched Pave the Way on April 15 in celebration of Elon’s upcoming 125th anniversary. For a gift of $125, the university will engrave bricks in honor of alumni participating in the campaign. Nearly 700 donors supporting the campaign made their first gift of the fiscal year to reserve a brick.

Pave the Way donors can view their personalized bricks at the Martin Alumni Center during Elon’s 125th anniversary homecoming, scheduled Nov. 8-10. Gifts received during the campaign will benefit Elon’s Greatest Needs, an annual fund that supports scholarships, faculty development, technology, academics, facilities and the Elon Experiences.

Alumni who participated in Elon’s last brick campaign, which ran nearly 20 years ago, are honored with bricks that are now installed in front of the Moseley Center.
