BloombergBusinessweek reports on Mary Gowan's new position

The professor of management and former dean of the Love School of Business has been named dean of the business school at James Madison University.

Professor Mary Gowan has been named the new dean at James Madison University’s College of Business in Virginia and her role has been featured by BloombergBusinessweek, which described Gowan as “one of a small but growing number of female academics to take the helm of a business school.”

She begins her duties July 1.

Gowan has extensive consulting and executive education experience with private and public organizations in the areas of leadership, human resources management and organizational behavior.  Her clients have included Lockheed Martin, Harris Teeter, Marriott, Sears, Bank of America, Wachovia and the cities of Charlotte, N.C. and El Paso, Texas. 

Additionally, before coming to Elon University in 2007 as dean of the Martha and Spencer Love School of Business, she was a professor in the executive MBA program at LG Electronics’ headquarters in South Korea.

Gowan returned to the classroom in 2011 after helping the Love School of Business create new strategic plan and earn reaccreditation from AACSB.
