Collin Cooper receives ABA honors

Elon Law alumnus Collin Cooper L’12 was recently named Associate Editor of The Young Lawyer, a publication of the Young Lawyers Division (YLD) of the American Bar Association (ABA), as well as an ABA YLD Scholar for 2013-2014.

The Young Lawyer, circulating to over 150,000 readers, is the YLD’s practice-oriented publication focusing on matters of interest for the new lawyer. As a third-year law student Cooper authored an article on leadership and the law featured in The Young Lawyer. The article, “Leadership and the Law: Skills You Need to Survive in the New Economy,” was the lead article in the July-August 2011 edition. He authored a second article in The Young Lawyer in September of 2012, entitled “Interviewing Techniques that Improve Attorney-Client Relationships.”

In addition to being named Associate Editor of The Young Lawyer, Cooper was also named an ABA YLD Scholar for 2013-2014, an honor bestowed on approximately 16 young attorneys annually that supports attendance at the Fall Conference, Midyear Meeting and Spring Conference of the ABA and includes other benefits and requirements, such as the drafting of “legislation” (proposals) for the ABA YLD Assembly, which is the YLD’s governing body.

Currently a Trial Support Contractor at Womble Carlyle Sandridge & Rice, LLP, Cooper was a Leadership Fellow at Elon Law, the Articles Editor for the Elon Law Review and the recipient of the 2012 ALI-ABA Award recognizing a graduate who best represents the qualities of scholarship and leadership that are valued by the American Law Institute and the American Bar Association.
