More than 200 alumni, students participate in Alumni/Intern Socials

The Young Alumni Council, Regional Alumni Chapters and the Student Professional Development Center teamed up to host a successful series of Alumni/Intern Socials this summer in four cities.

In June and July, the Young Alumni Council  teamed up with the Washington, D.C., Boston, Triangle and New York City Alumni Chapters to co-host the annual Alumni/Intern Socials. Record numbers of both local alumni and Elon students interning in those regions came out for this year’s event series.

Nearly 200 alumni networked, socialized and shared secrets of the city with more than 50 Elon interns in their cities.

“The Alumni/Intern Social and other events like it are vital,” said D.C. Chapter President Jenn Heilman. “Chapters must make connections with students early to ensure the growth of the regional organizations and the professional development of our future young alumni.”

Staff from the Student Professional Development Center also joined these events to foster relationships between alumni and students. Joining this year’s events were:

  • In D.C.: Political Science Professor Chalmers Brumbaugh, Director of Experiential Education Pam Brumbaugh and Director of Domestic Programs Phil Smith;
  • In Boston and the Triangle: Associate Director of Corporate and Employer Relations Sarah Thomas;
  • In New York City: Senior Career Advising Fellow Ashley Pinney.

“Having the support of faculty and staff beyond the ‘Elon bubble’ for alumni programming made this event unique to both our alma mater and our chapter,” Heliman said. “It not only strengthens the chapter’s commitment to providing student professional development opportunities, but also embodies Elon’s lifelong investment in its alumni.”

YAC President Dave Dziok said events like these demonstrate that no matter where you are in your Elon experience, the bonds last long after graduation.

“It’s important for alumni to remember, they don’t need to be on campus to give back and keep that connection strong,” he added.
