Chad Awtrey gives invited research talk

Chad Awtrey, assistant professor of mathematics, centered his presentation on the newest results of his research program.

Assistant professor of mathematics Chad Awtrey gave an invited research talk at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro on Wednesday, Oct. 23.

Awtrey’s talk centered on the newest results of his research program, which aims to develop theory and algorithms for computing the symmetries of roots of polynomial equations, an area known as Galois theory.

A portion of Awtrey’s talk focused on recent results he obtained in collaboration with Elon undergraduate researchers Nicole Miles ’15, Chris Shill ’14 and Erin Strosnider ’14. A corresponding paper has been accepted for publication in the journal Involve, a top-ranked mathematics journal that showcases new results from high-quality research collaborations between faculty and students.
