Electronic payment cards make Flex Spending easier

Elon employees enrolled in Health and Dependent Care Flex Spending will be receiving two electronic payment cards in the mail.

The red Benny Card will arrive in a nondescript envelope and can be used to pay for eligible Health and Dependent Care Flex Spending expenses, which eliminates any out-of-pocket cost.

Here’s what you need to know about the Benny Card:

What is the advantage of the Benny Card over filing paper claims?
The Benny Card allows you to pay for eligible expenses at the point of purchase, eliminating any out-of-pocket cost. Also, transactions can often be approved without requiring supporting documentation, cutting down on paperwork.

Do I need to do anything after I use the card?
Keep all receipts! We may need to verify a transaction placed on the card. If this is the case, you will be notified by email or a letter mailed to your home address on file.

What is my PIN number?
The Benny Card can be run as a credit or a PIN-less debit transaction. You will not be required to enter a PIN.

Can my spouse or eligible dependents use the Benny Card?
You will receive two cards, both with the subscriber’s name on the card. Anyone eligible for reimbursement under your plan may use the card. If you need additional cards for family members, they are available upon request for a fee of $5 per set of two.

What happens if I lost my card?
Any cards which are lost or stolen should be reported immediately to Flores & Associates to prevent fraudulent activity. Cards can be deactivated and replaced for a fee of $5, or you can choose to submit manual claims for your expenses.

Will I get a new card every year?
The Benny Card has a three-year life. Do not throw away the card even if you do not choose to enroll for the new plan year in case you decide to enroll in a subsequent year. You will automatically be sent a new set of cards the month your current set expires.

I forgot my Benny Card at home when I picked up my prescription. What do I do?
You can always file an FSADirect Request for Reimbursement Form for reimbursement; use of the Benny Card is completely optional.

I accidentally used the card for an ineligible service. How do I correct the situation?
You may ask the provider to refund your Benny Card, and pay for the ineligible service or item with some other means of payment. Please notify Flores if a refund is issued to your card for an ineligible service or item. You may refund any ineligible transactions by sending a check to Flores & Associates at P.O. BOX 31397 Charlotte, NC 28231. The funds will be added back to your balance to use for future eligible expenses incurred during the current plan year. You also have the option of submitting documentation showing you have incurred other eligible expenses paid out-of-pocket to offset the ineligible charge.

I received a Request for Documentation for one charge, but not another. Why is that?
We do everything we can to automatically approve transactions, but unfortunately we still need documentation for certain transactions. Co-payments, most pharmacy charges and recurring expenses usually do not require documentation.

My doctor prescribed over the counter drugs for treatment of a medical condition. Can I use the Benny Card to purchase these?
Unfortunately the card can only identify and accept items, which are eligible for everybody. You can always purchase the products with another form of payment, and file a claim for reimbursement. Please be sure to include your doctor’s note when submitting your claim.
