'White out' planned for Elon vs. UMass on Saturday

Wear white to Alumni Gym on Saturday night when the Elon Phoenix hosts the nationally ranked UMass Minutemen in a sold-out game.

The Elon University men’s basketball team will host a nationally ranked opponent for the first time on Saturday night, Jan. 18, at 7 p.m. when the Phoenix welcomes No. 15/16 UMass to Alumni Gym. The game has been dubbed a “White Out” and fans are encouraged to wear white to the game to cheer on the Phoenix.

Though Saturday’s game has officially sold out, the Ticket Office will have some General Admission/Standing Room tickets available Saturday beginning at 6 p.m.

Fans can watch the game exclusively and in high-definition on Phoenix All-Access. Click here to purchase a subscription.

Saturday is the first time Elon has hosted a nationally ranked team in Alumni Gym since moving to the NCAA Division I ranks. The Phoenix has already played ranked foes Colorado, ranked 21st at the time, and Duke, ranked seventh at the time, this season prior to Saturday’s game. All but two of Elon’s 19 previous games against nationally ranked teams have come on the road.

The Phoenix hosted Duke in the Greensboro Coliseum this season and took on 23rd-ranked Davidson in 2008 in North Charleston, S.C., in the Southern Conference Tournament.

Saturday’s game marks the third straight year the Phoenix and Minutemen have met on the hardwood. UMass just edged Elon by a score of 78-73 in overtime in the Hall of Fame Holiday Showcase game in 2012 in Springfield, Mass.

Before Saturday’s game, the Phoenix travels to Davidson on Thursday, Jan. 16, to take on the Wildcats at Belk Arena at 7 p.m.
