Darris Means earns national dissertation award

Darris Means, Elon Academy Associate Director, has been named the first place winner for the Dissertation Award by the American Association for Blacks in Higher Education.

Means successfully defended his dissertation in December at North Carolina State University. His dissertation is titled, “Demonized No More: The Spiritual Narratives, Counterstories, and Counter/Spaces of Black Gay Male College Students at Predominantly White Institutions.” Means will be recognized at the annual meeting of the American Association for Blacks in Higher Education in March.
