On July 8, Elon Law’s Elder Law Clinic hosted a Triad Retirement Living Association (TRLA) forum that focused on misconceptions about romance as people age.
The speaker for the forum was Susan Meny, Senior Center Director at the Shepherd’s Center of Greater Winston-Salem. Meny spoke to TRLA members about “Sex and Seniors,” correcting some misconceptions about romance as people age and explaining the rising problem of Sexually Transmitted Diseases among older adults.
During the forum, Elon Law announced their co-sponsorship with TRLA of an elder abuse awareness event this fall that will feature Paul Greenwood, an internationally recognized expert on the prosecution of elder abuse. Greenwood, a San Diego County, Calif. Deputy district attorney, directs that offices Elder Abuse Prosecution Unit. He will speak to an inter-professional audience in Greensboro on October 24. Elon Law students participating in the Elder Law Clinic provide free legal counsel and services, under the supervision of faculty, to low-income residents of Guilford County, ages 60 and above. The clinic focuses on the civil legal issues of older adults, such as power of attorney, end of life planning, contract and consumer issues, housing, grandparent rights, Medicare and Medicaid, Social Security benefits, and Veterans benefits. Members of the Triad Retirement Living Association (TRLA), comprised of senior services professionals, meet monthly to conduct business and to become educated on a variety of topics relevant to seniors.
