Commencement information for parents and guests

Spring 2016 graduates and their families and friends:

Preparations for Elon’s Commencement in May are well underway. We hope you will be able to attend the events described in the pocket guide. 

Please refer to the map that shows parking locations on Saturday, May 21. The parking area (PSN) between the Koury Athletic Center and Center for the Arts will be used for special needs on a first-come basis. A shuttle cart service will assist passengers while Campus Security directs cars to nearby parking after the special needs lot fills. Shuttles will be available before and after the ceremony for assisted transport to and from the Commencement location. General parking is available at locations marked (P). 

On Saturday morning between 7:30 and 8:45 a.m., graduates, families and guests are invited to a continental breakfast on MacMahon Terrace at Inman Admissions Building. Graduates must report to Alumni Memorial Gymnasium at 8 a.m. The breakfast will close at 8:45 a.m. to ensure guest seating and the ceremony start at 9:15 a.m. 

Closed circuit viewing of the ceremony will be available in Alumni Memorial Gymnasium, as an alternative to the outdoor special needs section. A sign interpreter will be near the stage and handheld assisted hearing systems are available upon request. You are welcome to call the Commencement Office (336-278-2641) for information on special needs services. 

Following the ceremony, Elon faculty and the Office of Alumni Engagement will host a lemonade reception for graduates and their families Under the Oaks. Signs for each of the academic departments are placed above the refreshment stations. These locations provide a good plan to meet your graduate near their academic major after the ceremony. 

Graduates were also sent an important letter regarding their preparation for the ceremony.

GradImages will photograph the highlights including each graduate receiving his or her diploma. Proofs will be ready to view online as early as 48 hours after the ceremony. GradImages sends emails and mails paper proofs, along with optional text message notifications. Pre-registering is a simple way to ensure your contact information is on file to receive proofs as quickly as possible. 

Beginning on Monday, May 2, each graduate may pick up two rain location tickets for Alumni Memorial Gymnasium from the office of the Vice President and Dean of Student Life in Alamance 109. Guests with these tickets and graduates will fill Alumni Memorial Gymnasium. In the rain plan, commencement will be split into two ceremonies. The first ceremony will begin at 9:15 a.m. for graduates receiving Bachelor of Arts degrees. The second ceremony will begin at 1:15 p.m. for graduates receiving Bachelor of Fine Arts, Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Science in Business Administration degrees. Faculty and guests not seated in Alumni Memorial Gymnasium will be able to view the Commencement Exercises on closed-circuit television at the rain locations listed in the pocket guide. When Commencement Exercises are held outdoors, there is no limit to the number of guests who may attend and tickets are not required.
